Two verses from Emily Dickinson to stand for the past few days.

The Feet, mechanical, go round –
A Wooden way
Of Ground, or Air, or Ought –
Regardless grown,
A Quartz contentment, like a stone –

This is the Hour of Lead –
Remembered, if outlived,
As Freezing persons, recollect the Snow –
First – Chill – then Stupor – then the letting go –

Another perhaps tenuous connection that might nevertheless console you is that after my mother passed away about two and half years ago I chose exactly the same verse from Dickinson (the second one) as my talisman and koan. That last line uncannily unpacks the process of grieving - how you begin to move forward is all in that dash in "and then - the letting go". You have all my empathy.
